Adriaanse, Beam Lead Eagles on Saturday

ORLANDO, Fla. – Heinrich Adriaanse's provisional qualifier and Josh Beam's recording-breaking performance highlighted Embry-Riddle Men's Track and Field's competition at the IMG Spring Break Invitational and the Black and Gold Invitational, respectively on Saturday.
 
Competing in the decathlon for the first time this season, Adriaanse had a huge PR in the javelin, throwing the implement 7.82m further than his previous personal best with a 48.90m (160-5). He closed out the day with a PR of 4:44.29 in the 1500m to finish with 5,789 points to hit an NCAA II provisional qualifying standard.
 
Racing in the 2000m Steeplechase Beam bettered the old program record in that event by two seconds, crossing in 6:22.24.
 
Freshman Michael Willingham posted personal records in each of the three events he competed in on Saturday. He started the day with a 50.93m 167-1) toss in the hammer and followed with a 49.59m (162-8) in the javelin and a 13.75m(45-1.5) in the shot put.
 
Exactly one month after his first collegiate attempt at the javelin, Ryan Flournoy improved his PR by 7.08m with an ERAU season-best throw of 54.49m (179-1). Jake Lyons also had PRs of 34.02m (111-7) in the hammer and     42.87m (140-8) in the javelin.
 
The Eagles had four individuals in the top eight of the 5000m. Brendon Shea was third overall in 15:11.48, followed by Ryan Szklany in fourth (15:14.19), Tanner Rosolino in fifth (15:27.07) and Mike Klein in eighth in a personal-best time of 16:05.74.
 
The Eagles will be back at the University of Central Florida next weekend for the Knights Invite, March 25-26.
