DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. –
Heinrich Adriaanse headlined the Embry-Riddle men's track and field performances at the Embry-Riddle Spikes Classic on Friday as the second day of the three-day meet came to an end. Friday's competition featured the conclusion of the collegiate heptathlon, as well as the start of high school and collegiate individual events.
Adriaanse topped the podium in the decathlon winning the shot put (12.90m (42-4)), high jump (1.89m (6-2.25)) and discus (35.95m (117-11)) on the way to a point total of 6,378. In addition to winning the event, Adriaanse also hit the NCAA II provisional qualifying standard.
Jeremy Mog matched his career-best in the high jump with a leap of 1.90m (5-2.75).
The sprint events featured PRs for Craig Dedrick (10.75) and
Ajani McPherson (11.06) in the 100m, while
Adam Landen (21.72),
Bradon Black (21.78) and Dedrick (22.09) all had career-best races in the 200m.
Tayan Benson improved his PR in the 1500m by nearly four seconds, finishing fifth in 3:57.00, just ahead of teammate
Tristan McWilliam who finished in 3:57.15.
Jacob D'Aleo also ran the fastest 1500m of his career with a time of 3:59.32.
Brendon Shea also posted a career-best performance, winning the 5000m in 14:37.47, which marks the sixth fastest time in program history. The 5000m run also yielded personal bests for
Ethan Stout (15:36.94) and
Mason Beaudette (15:38.95).
The Eagles close out the Spikes Classic on Saturday beginning with the discus at 9 a.m.
