DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's track and field team began competition in earnest at the 2023 Embry-Riddle Spikes Classic on Friday. The second day of the three-day meet featured the conclusion of the collegiate heptathlon, as well as the start of high school and collegiate individual events.
Sierra Coward wrapped up two days of competition in the heptathlon by winning the event with 4747 points. Her performance included personal-bests of 11.99m (39-4) in the shot put, 26.26 in the 200m and 39.21m (128-9) in the javelin. Coward also met the NCAA II provisional qualifying standard.
The Eagles placed three in the top six of the hammer throw, led by
Amberleigh Sauer (4th, 47.49m (155-10)), Kristen Rolle (5th, 43.98m (144-3) and
Madison Morris who recorded a personal-best 43.31m (142-1) to finish sixth.
The high jump was won by
Ukeyvia Beckwith with a mark of 1.62m (5-3.75), while
Ashtyn Hunt placed third with a leap of 1.52m (4-11.75).
The pole vault saw the Eagles sweep the top four spots.
Piper Kimes led the way with a vault of 3.10m (10-2), while
Breck Johnson,
Resa Akers and
Noel Konitzer all cleared 2.75m (9-0.25).
Michala Daniels turned a personal-best performance in the 110m hurdles, crossing the line in 16.63, while
Ashley Moore had a PR of 13.71 in the 100m.
Competing in the 1500m, Mackenzie Keller finished second overall in a personal-best time of 4:35.19, while
Caroline Harris bettered her PR by two seconds, crossing in 4:51.20.
The Eagles' third win of the day came in the 200m where
Shenya Patrice broke the tape in a career-best time of 25.17.
Maggie Allen found success in her third 5000m race of the season. The senior shaved nearly seven seconds off her previous personal-best to finish in 18:45.37.
The Eagles close out the Spikes Classic on Saturday beginning with the discus at 9 a.m.
