FELLSMERE, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's rowing team showed out on Saturday in the Florida Fall Invite at Canal 54. The Head of the Canal, hosted by Florida Tech, featured crews from around the Sunshine State, including the Eagles and host Panthers, along with DI programs Jacksonville and Stetson. ERAU's top Varsity boat took home second place out of the 11-boat field, after winning the sprints portion (1000m) and placing third – by just two seconds –  in the head race (4500m).

The varsity boat featured Ognjen Srbinovic, Connor Goepfert, Sam Clode, Igor Martinovic, James Zbitnoff, Ben Kerns, Roman Linkugel, Maximus Weitekamper and was coxxed by Connor Matthews. Together they rowed a very strong 3:03.3 sprint time, taking down the Hatters, Panthers and Dolphins' boats swiftly, more than a second faster than second place Stetson 1Vs. The Eagle boat raced the 4500m head to a third place finish with a time of 16:20.9, just behind Stetson and Tech's 1Vs.

ERAU's 3Vs, featuring Quinn Calzada, Hayden Lesser, Dan Ronen, Jack Hobart, Colden Gotobed, Douglas Griswold, Griffin King, Kemal Cengiz and Rylan Linebarger at cox, were stellar on the day, coming in at No. 5 in both events and overall. Their time in the sprints came in at 3:09.2, ahead of the JU and SU 2Vs by more than nine and 25 seconds, respectively. In the head race, the Eagles finished the course 16:47.6, more than a half-minute faster than the DI 2Vs, for a combined time of 19:56.8.

The Eagle 2V boat, made up of Sebastian Sanchez, Kimble Ettelt, Sawyer Dalton, Aidan Powers, Blake Paynter, Jake Blackmon, Matthew Talty and Sam Prelewicz at coxswain, drew a sixth place finish – first among all 2V boats –  in each race. The Eagles crossed the finish line the sprints at 3:10.6, and the head at 16:49.7 for a combined time of 20:00.3.

The Florida Fall Invite concludes the fall portion of the Eagles' schedule. With some momentum from great finishes in tough events, ERAU looks forward to a successful spring slate.
