DELAND, Fla.- The Embry-Riddle men's rowing team stayed close to home this weekend, competing at the Stetson Showdown. The event featured crews from Jacksonville, Rollins, Stetson, and Wesleyan. The Eagles raced in three events, earning two second place finishes on the day.
THE WATER
- The course was 2,000m
- Worsening conditions throughout the day with cross-tailwind gusts ranging from 7-19 mph.
THE BOATS
- 1st Varsity Eight –Connor Matthews (Cox), Sebastian Sanchez, Aidan Powers, Sam Prelewicz, Igor Martinovic, James Zbitnoff, Sawyer Dalton, Roman Linkugel and Kemal Cengiz.
- 2nd Varsity Eight – Sam Prelewicz (Cox), Quinn Calzada, Connor Goepfert, Blake Paynter, Maximus Weitekamper, Ognjen Srbinovic, Michael Chemi, Jake Blackmon and Matthew Talty.
- 3rd Varsity Eight – Rylie Cataldo (Cox), Dan Ronen, Hayden Lesser, Kevin Ritz, Griffin King, Colden Gotobed, Ian Ranker, Griffin McElmurray and Val Hudson.
RESULTS
- The First Varsity Eight boat raced in the second event of the day, finishing in the middle of a strong field. Battling shifting wind conditions, the crew crossed the line in 5:54.9, showing steady form as they continue to gain speed.
- Embry-Riddle's Second Varsity Eight had an impressive showing, finishing second with a time of 6:01.5, 6.5 seconds back of winner Wesleyan. The Eagles outpaced crews from Stetson, Jacksonville, and Rollins, demonstrating solid improvement and strong execution.
- The Third Varsity Eight also earned a second-place finish, narrowly trailing Wesleyan. Despite tough crosswinds later in the day, the crew posted a time of 6:25.7, finishing just 13.4 seconds back but besting Jacksonville.

The Eagles will head to Sarasota, Florida, to compete in the FIRA Championships on March 28-29.
