Men’s Golf Continues Leaderboard Climb After Day Two of SSC Championship

ORLANDO, Fla. - Embry-Riddle Men's Golf's 291 on Monday tied for the second-best round during day two of the Sunshine State Conference Championship, and it helped send the Eagles one spot up the leaderboard into fourth. ERAU is within four shots of second-place Barry and is poised to post the program's best-ever result at the conference tournament. 

On top of that, three Eagles reside in the top-15, led by Ian Ball (T-6th) as well as Edoardo Scialanga (T-13th) and Tiago Barni (T-13th).

  • The Eagles fared better than most teams on par-4s, posting the second-best average in the field through two rounds (4.13).
  • Embry-Riddle also excelled on par-5s, posting a 4.92 average (-3) to rank fourth among all teams.

Ian Ball (72-73=145) | T-6th 
  • Ball began his day with four-straight pars.
  • He cruised home by going one under on the back nine.
  • Ball has played well on par-4s, tying for the sixth-lowest average on such holes (4.05).
  • Additionally, he's one under on par-5s. 
  • His 27 pars through 36 holes are a team high and the second most among 50 individuals.

Edoardo Scialanga (73-73=146) | T-13th 
  • Just like yesterday, Scialanga started his round with another below-par score with a birdie on the opening hole.
  • He closed his round strong by going one under over the last four holes.
  • That stretch began with an impressive chip-in from 20-30 yards out on the 15th to save par.
  • Scialanga is in the red on par-5s, going four under on such holes. That's tied for the second-best mark in the field. 

Tiago Barni (74-72=146) | T-13th 
  • Barni produced three birdies in a six-hole span from the eighth to the 13th. 
  • The senior's 72 on Monday was his best round of the spring.
  • Barni is tied for sixth in stroke average on par-4s (4.05).
  • He's also one under par on par-5s after two rounds.

Ryan Gear (76-77=153) | T-33rd 
  • Gear was two under through five holes thanks to back-to-back birdies on the fourth and fifth.
  • He leads the team with seven birdies through day two.

Michael Faringer (80-73=153) | T-33rd 
  • Faringer was much improved on day two.
  • He started with a birdie on the first hole and then recorded a birdie and 12 pars from the fifth to the 17th holes. 
  • This is his first competition of the season.
