DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle's
Madyson Jean-Louis has been nominated for the 2025 NCAA Woman of the Year Award by the Sunshine State Conference.
Jean-Louis is nominated alongside Eckerd's Chance Bucher, marking the 16th year the SSC has submitted two nominees for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award since 2006.
Athletic Directors, Senior Woman Administrators, Athletic Communication Directors, and Faculty Athletic Representatives from the league's 11 member institutions selected Bucher and Jean-Louis from a pool of nominees as the SSC's nominees for NCAA Woman of the Year. Voters scored candidates based on the NCAA's Woman of the Year guidelines.
One of the most prestigious NCAA awards, the Woman of the Year Award is rooted in Title IX and was established in 1991 to celebrate the achievements of women in intercollegiate athletics. The award honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.
Jean-Louis etched herself into Embry-Riddle women's basketball history this past season as the program's first SSC Player of the Year and SSC Defensive Player of the Year award recipient. She produced a record-breaking 528 points last season and finished as the program's career scoring leader with 1,570 points as an Eagle.
The native of Grand Prairie, Texas, was a First Team All-SSC selection in addition to being named on the SSC All-Defensive Team. She was also recognized as the SSC Tournament MVP and was a D2 CCA First Team All-South Region honoree as well as a WBCA All-American Honorable Mention.
A mainstay in the lineup, Jean-Louis started all 32 games last season and averaged 16.8 points per game on 47.7 percent shooting from the field, 44.8 percent from three, and 77.8 percent from the foul line. In addition, she averaged 4.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per contest.
"Maddy's impact on our program last season was huge -- across the board on offense, defense, in the classroom, and in the community," Head Coach
Lisa Wilson stated. "She was one of our hardest workers, a great teammate, and an absolute joy to coach."
"Maddy is the full package -- student, person and player, and she was a major part of our success!"
Off the court, Jean-Louis is a four-time honoree on the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll and a two-time D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award recipient. The Boeing Business Scholarship recipient also was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District twice. She's also been honored on Embry-Riddle's Dean's List and received the Embry-Riddle Steve and Vicky Ridder Scholarship, as well as the Embry-Riddle Eagles of Excellence Scholarship.
Jean-Louis has served as the Secretary of the Student Government Association and is an active member of the Black Students Association, Caribbean Students Association, and Women in Aviation. She has volunteered with campus clean-up and beach clean-up initiatives. She's also volunteered at the SSC Women's Golf Championship, the Volusia Thanksgiving Basket Brigade, and the Holly Hill Math Night.
In the Fall, the Woman of the Year selection committee will name the Top 30 honorees, including 10 women from each division. The selection committee will announce nine finalists in late 2025, with three advancing from each division. At January's NCAA Convention in Nashville, the national Top 30 honorees will be celebrated, and the NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced, as selected by the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics.
