DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The second-ranked Embry-Riddle women's tennis team earned its second consecutive shutout on Friday as it defeated St. Thomas 9-0 in a Sun Conference matchup at ERAU's Crotty Tennis Complex.  With the win, the Eagles improve to 7-3 on the season, while the Bobcats fall to 3-5.
 
The Blue and Gold completely dominated doubles play and the Bobcats managed to win just three total games.  ERAU's No. 1 doubles team of Hui-I Huang and Ana Gotz scored the first point for the Eagles as they blanked Maria Dimitrova and Ksenia Slavina 8-0.  Paula Ortiz Couder and Kathryn Bock then handedly defeated Cassandra Lemieux and Victoria Slavina 8-1 at No. 2 doubles, while Giovanna Tomiotto and Ana Gonzalez Hoy earned an 8-2 victory over Andrea Gonzalez and Naomi Maehama to complete the double sweep.
 
Singles play began with a quick victory from Ortiz Couder as she handed Dimitrova a 6-2, 6-0 defeat at No. 3 singles.  After falling behind early in the first set, Huang then defeated Lemieux 6-2, 6-1 to clinch the victory for the Eagles at No. 1 singles.
 
The match at the second singles spot between Anna Gotz and Victoria Slavina proved to be the most interesting of the contest.  In the first set, Gotz fell behind 4-3 but battled back to win the set 6-3.  In the second set, Gotz again trailed, this time 3-2, but the sophomore showed her resolve once again as she came back to win 6-3 and give the Eagles their sixth point of the match.
 
On the back courts of the Crotty Tennis Complex, Tomiotto and Bock each picked up relatively easy victories as they defeated their opponents 6-2, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-2, respectively.
 
Gonzalez Hoy registered the final point for the Eagles.  The junior had nice come-from-behind 7-5 victory over Maehama in the first set and then made quick work of her opponent with a 6-1 win in the second.
 
ERAU will be in action again at home on Monday when they take on Warner at 10 a.m.
