DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The second-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team returned to the win column with a 9-0 shut out of Cardinal Stritch (8-5) on Wednesday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles are now 5-2 on the year and will return to Sun Conference play with a home match against 15th-ranked Northwood at 2 p.m. on Friday.
ERAU Head Coach Dave Paschal rearranged the doubles lineup on Wednesday and the strategy paid off as all three first-time partnerships collected wins for a doubles sweep.
Jaime Sanchez-Canamares Rios and
Carlos Becke scored the first point for the Blue and Gold as they downed George Watson and Abel DeCosta 8-1 on court two. At the top spot,
Deni Zmak teamed up with Fabian Zierlyn for an 8-4 win over Fabio Perasso and Ray Weich, and
Luke de Caires and
Rodolfo Arreygue completed the sweep with a come-from-behind 9-7 defeat of Caio Barros and Florian Fresse.
Sanchez-Canamares was the first to finish his match at No. 2 singles, as he downed Fresse 6-1, 6-0 at the second position. The clinching point came on court five where de Caires dispatched Jimmy Lo 6-1, 6-3.
The Eagles earned straight-set wins in the remaining four singles matches as Zmak bested Perasso 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, Becke downed Barros 6-0, 4-1 on court three, Zierlyn defeated Weich 6-3, 6-4, and Arreygue topped Nader Murad 6-3, 6-1 at the sixth position.
