DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Senior
Jaime Sanchez-Canamares Rios and junior
Hui-I Huang were recognized as NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athletes in the sport of tennis in an announcement made by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics on Friday. To be eligible for scholar-athlete honors, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status.
Friday's award was one of many academic honors bestowed on the Sanchez-Canamares and Huang, both of whom also received Academic All-Conference and Academic All-District honors this season.
Sanchez-Canamares (Albacete, Spain) completed his undergraduate degree in Business Administration and walked across the stage at ERAU's May 11 graduation with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. A two-time Sun Conference first team selection, he teamed up with
Deni Zmak to win the ITA/NAIA National Championship, as well as the ITA Super Bowl in the fall.
Huang (Changhua, Taiwan) carries a 3.73 GPA as an Aeronautical Science major. She was tabbed as The Sun Conference Player of the Year and partnered with
Anna Gotz for conference Doubles Team of the Year honors. Ranked 17th in the ITA national singles poll and third in doubles, Huang helped the ERAU women to a quarterfinal finish at the NAIA National Championship.
