ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The sixth-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team notched its 10
th win of the season by shutting out Eckerd (12-6) 9-0 at the Tritons' Turley Athletic Complex on Saturday. The shutout was the fourth of the 2016 campaign and the second in as many matches for the Eagles who are now 10-2 on the year.
A 3-0 sweep in doubles helped the Eagles establish themselves early.
Deni Zmak and
Juan Ortiz Couder, and
Mickael Faucher and
Rodolfo Arreygue earning 8-1 victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, respectively, while
Fabian Zierleyn and
Carlos Becke defeated Frazier Springfield and Eddie Lewis 8-5 on court two.
Zmak and Ortiz Couder dropped just three games at the first and fourth singles positions combined as Zmak defeated Victor Appelqvist 6-1, 6-1 and Ortiz Couder dispatched James McManus 6-1, 6-1. Arreygue handed Lewis a 6-3, 6-3 defeat at No. 3 and Zierleyn scored the clinching point by downing Yosua Husodo 6-2, 6-2 at the second spot.
Playing eight-game pro sets,
Luke de Caires and
Mickael Faucher secured the shutout with de Caires topping Springfield 8-3 on court five and Faucher besting Jonathan Cheng 8-5 on court six.
The Eagles will play back-to-back matches in the upcoming week, traveling to Palm Beach Atlantic for a 3 p.m. match on Thursday followed by a 2 p.m. contest at Florida Southern on Friday.
