HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - The Embry-Riddle women's cross country team had their final regular season tune-up on Saturday before the 2018 postseason starts, as the Eagles ran to a second-place showing at the USCB Sand Shark Invitational.
The Eagles finished with 72 points overall, just seven behind NAIA No. 3 SCAD Atlanta who won the 26-team meet. ERAU finished well-clear of third-place Florida Southern (104).
Sarah Edens continued her great 2018 season with a third-place finish in 17:54.6, the eighth-fastest time in school history. Close behind in fifth was
Kristen Metcalfe in 18:00.7, while
Kara Funke (13th - 18:49.0) and
Alex Orr (24th - 19:11.6) finished third and fourth for the Blue and Gold, respectively.
Josie Gray ran to a 28th-place finish in 19:16.1, with
Rachel Jones (40th - 19:33.5) and
Maggie Allen (60th - 19:56.6) acting as displacers. Allen's time was the fastest of her career.
Ukeyvia Beckwith (61st - 19:56.7) and
Sara Towers (135th - 21:41.4) also competed for the Eagles.
Embry-Riddle's total time of 1:33.12 was just 32 seconds shy of SCAD Atlanta's and more than a minute faster than FSC.
The Eagles open postseason competition on Nov. 3 for the Sunshine State Conference Championship. The Embry-Riddle Cross Country Course will be the site of the SSC Championship meet with Rollins serving as the host.
