PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Embry-Riddle women's cross country team made its second consecutive trip to the NCAA II National Championships.
The Eagles had to face cold temperatures and rainy conditions, but the tough weather was not enough to slow down
Sarah Edens. The Junior finished with a time of 23:22.3, placing 31st and becoming the Blue and Gold's first NCAA All-American. Edens joins Ellie Staker (2013) as the only other women's cross country runner in program history to earn All-America status.
As a team, the Eagles finished 30th with a team score of 677.
Kristen Metcalfe had the second-best showing for ERAU. She finished 77th with a time of 24:12.0.
Juniors
Josie Gray and
Mikaela Hakamaa had the third and fourth-best finishes for the Eagles. Gray finished 212th with a time of 25:54.2, while Hakamaa placed 226th with a time of 26:18.2.
Rachel Jones finished 231st (26:23.0),
Maggie Allen finished 233rd (26:37.7) and
Alex Orr finished 244th (27:03.9) to round of the rest of the ERAU competitors.
"It was a tough day on a very sloppy, muddy course," ERAU Head Coach
Mike Rosolino said. "I thought we had a great effort today, but not the result we hoped for. We had a great season and I am proud of our teams."
Grand Valley State took home the team and individual crowns. The Lakers finished with a team score of 41, while Sarah Berger led the leaderboard with a time of 22:07.7. Grand Valley State's team score was the lowest since Adams State in 2004. University of Mary (83) and Adams State (90) rounded out the top-3.
