ST. PETERSURG, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team was solid in its Sunshine State Conference debut with a shutout of Eckerd, Saturday at the Tritons' Fred Bullard Courts. The Eagles are now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in SSC play, while Eckerd falls to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the league.
The Eagles got off to a strong start, dropping just four games in three doubles contests. At the third spot,
Lydia Carter and Sabrina Ehrenfort teamed up for an 8-0 shutout of Laurence Bourgault and Isabella Wong.
Georgina Wood and Roberta Krvajica bested Taylor Selby and Joyce Fields 8-2, and
Maria Turrillo and
Kathryn Bock downed Maryann Aaron and Bailey Koronich by the same score.
The Eagles were equally dominant in singles play as no player surrendered more than three games in their respective two-set wins. Krvajica was the first to finish her match as she bested Fields 6-1, 6-1 on court two. Turrillo followed closely with her 6-1, 6-0defeat of Selby at the top spot to clinch the Eagle victory.
Wood earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Aaron, while Ehrenfort bested Koronich 6-0, 6-2. Bock notched a 6-1, 6-0 win over Bourgault and Carter secured the shutout with her 6-1, 6-2 win over Cassidy at the sixth spot.
The Eagles will be back in action at 11 a.m. on Sunday when they host reigning national champion Barry at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
