DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis was unable to get by defending NCAA II national champion Barry on Sunday, falling to the Bucs 9-0. The Eagles are now 2-2 overall and 1-1 in Sunshine State Conference play, while the second ranked Bucs improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Barry notched its first point of the day on court three where Verena Schmid and Sonja Larsen bested Sabrina Ehrenfort and
Lydia Carter 8-1.
Georgina Wood and Roberta Krvajica took an early one-game lead over Carolin Schmidt and Zusa Maciejewska on court one, but the Barry duo was able to overtake the Eagle top-flight tandem 8-3 for the Bucs' second point.
At No. 2 doubles,
Kathryn Bock and
Maria Turrillo led Hannah Seizer and Julie Razafindranaly 5-4, but the Bucs were able to rally, once again, to win 8-6 and take a 3-0 team lead into singles.
Barry added to its tally when top-ranked Larsen bested Turrillo 6-1, 6-2 at the top singles spot, and Maciejewska clinched the win for the visitors when Hannah Seizer downed Wood 6-0, 6-3 at the third position.
Embry-Riddle will scrimmage Bethune Cookman at 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 13 before returning to conference play with a road match against Tampa at 3 p.m. on Feb. 22.
