MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's team was unable to bounce back from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play, falling to Florida Tech 5-4 in Sunshine State Conference play on Sunday.
Erin Egoroff and Mariana Castaneiras got the first point for the Panthers with an 8-4 win over
Kathryn Bock and
Maria Turrillo at No. 2 doubles. Kayla Hergott and Maria Escude Paricio made it 2-0 FIT by holding off
Lydia Carter and Roberta Krvajica 8-6 at the third spot, but
Georgina Wood and Sabrina Ehrenfort got a point back for the Eagles, teaming up for an 8-4 defeat of Maria Chun and Paloma Vela on court one.
Alahna Reto earned the first singles point of the day with her 6-4, 6-2 win over Turrillo at the No. 1 position to extend the Panther lead to 3-1, however, the next three points went to the Eagles. Playing at No. 2 singles, Krvajica bested Hergott 6-3, 6-4. Wood following with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Escuda, and Ehrenfort made it 4-3 ERAU by topping Vela 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4.
Florida Tech got the two points they needed to clinch the match at the fifth and sixth spots as Egoroff bested Bock 6-1, 6-2, and Stuckey topped Carter 6-2, 6-2.
The Eagles are now 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the Sunshine State Conference, while the Panthers improve to 4-2 and 3-2 in league play.
The Eagles' next match will be at 3:30 on March 7 when they host Lewis at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
