WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team came up short in its bid for a win in the final match of the season, falling to Palm Beach Atlantic on the road on Sunday. The Eagles were unable to capitalize on a 4-2 advantage and closed out the season at 6-13 on the year and 1-9 in the Sunshine State Conference, while PBA capped its campaign at 11-13 overall and 2-8 in league play.
Playing at No. 1 doubles Bella Mermersky and Yulia Russu scored the first point for the Sailfish with an 8-6 win over
Maria Turrillo and
Kathryn Bock. Taylor Conti and Michaela Mignemi made it 2-0 with their 8-6 win against
Lydia Carter and Sabrina Ehrenfort, but the Eagles avoided the doubles sweep when
Georgina Wood and Robert Krvajica outlasted Johanna Kerna and Laura Andersen 9-8 (2) on court two.
Turrillo pulled the Blue and Gold level with a quick 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Memersky at the top singles position. Krvajica followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Andersen on court two, and the Eagles' fourth flight player, Ehrenfort extended the lead to 4-2 with her 7-6 (8), 6-1 win against Conti.
The PBA comeback started with Vanessa Buchbinder's 7-6 (1), 7-5 edge against Wood at No. 3 singles. Romina Bolagay downed Bock 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5, and Mignemi won a three set battle against Carter (6-0, 5-7, 7-6 (4)) to clinch the win.
