JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Competing in its first races of the spring season, the Embry-Riddle men's rowing team earned a pair of victories and a pair of runner-up finishes on Saturday at the Jacksonville University Dual. The Eagles competed against the host Dolphins as well as Grand Valley State.
A pair of Varsity Eight races opened the day, with ERAU taking second place in both of them. In the first race, the boat of
Alec Palmer,
Zachary Stith,
Mathew Pitchford,
Guillermo Mazzilli,
Lucas Ferrando-Quilez,
Weston Hall,
Josh Busick,
Maxwell Katich, and
Ethan Boone finished just one second behind JU's boat with a time of 6:05.6. The second race saw the ERAU boat of
Arik Palmer,
Peter Ribbens, Noah Thornburg,
Jay'Quan Miller,
Chessie Newbold,
Joseph Corry, Chris Narishkin,
Eric Vogel, and
Trevor Turpie take second place with a time of 6:57.6, finishing just over 16 seconds behind the Dolphin boat.
Embry-Riddle earned its first victory of the day in the Varsity Four race, where the crew of
Alec Palmer, Mazzilli, Ferrando-Quilez, Katich, and Boone dominated the Grand Valley State boat, posting a time of 8:07.6, over a minute ahead of the Laker boat. The Eagles capped the day with a win in the Novice Four race as the boat of Andre Ponton,
Joseph Ouellette,
Carmelo Alamo, Corry, and Narishkin defeated the JU boat by almost 20 seconds with a time of 9:17.2.
The Eagles are back in action this week at the Rollins College Dual in Winter Park on Thursday, March 14.
