THE EAGLESRanked second in the NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll for the third straight week, the Embry-Riddle women's soccer wrapped up the 2014 Sun Conference North Division title with a 1-0 road win over Webber International on Friday. The Eagles, who are also listed second in the latest NAIA Modified Ratings Percentage Index (.918706), are 14-1 on the year and 8-0 in league play.
In Friday's game, the Eagles dominated the Warriors (5-7-1, 3-4-1) statistically, besting the home squad 19-2 in shots, including an 8-1 edge in shots on frame, and 12-4 in corner kicks.
The majority of the first 45 minutes was played in the Lady Warriors' half as the Eagles applied relentless pressure to the WIU defense. The first real chance of the half for the Blue and Gold came in the eighth minute when Julie Karlenas latched on to a Kristin Sverridottir corner kick, but WIU goalkeeper Kayla Hanel snagged Karlernas' header to keep the Eagles off the scoreboard.
The very next play saw WIU's Cierra Abundez race down the field on the counter attack, but with pressure from ERAU defender
Hanna Rolfsen, she ran the ball out over the touch line to turn it back over to the Eagles. From that point, the Eagles controlled the offense, outshooting the Lady Warriors 10-0, including four shots on frame, but the heavy shot advantage didn't translate into goals, resulting in a scoreless draw at the half.
The pace of the game picked up in the second half with end-to-end action through the first 20 minutes. The Eagles gradually regained control of the contest and put the Warriors on their heels once again.
The Eagles finally got the breakthrough they were looking for with less than 15 minutes left in regulation. Following a WIU throw-in,
Andrea Froshaug raced to pressure Hanel who was trying to control a pass from one of her defenders. Hanel, who came way off her line to make the play, rushed to get the ball out of the penalty area, but it fell to Ebbs who, on a heads-up play, noticed Hanel out of position and chipped the Warrior keeper with her first touch from 25 yards out to net the game-winner.
The Warriors went on the attack immediately following the goal, but
Olivia Lynch's only save of the day was a good one as she parried Megan Howard's shot over the cross bar to keep WIU off the board and preserve the shutout.
ABOUT THE ROYALSSecond-year head coach George Arroyo brings his Warner Royals women's soccer team into Sunday's game with a 6-6 overall record and a 3-5 record in conference play. The Royals picked up their third conference win on Friday when Jamie Murray's goal in the 110th minute secured a 1-0 win over Thomas.
Murray is the Royals' leading scorer with seven goals, including two game-winners and two assists for 16 points. Naybet Febo is Warner's assist leader with five, while Courtney Anderson and Samantha Oliveira have split time in goal, combining for 65 saves and a 3.26 goals against average.

Â
THE LAST TIME THEY METOn Sept. 29, 2013, the Embry-Riddle women's soccer team notched a 5-0 shutout of Warner. The Eagles dominated the offense from the beginning, keeping the Royals pinned in their own half. Working around a Royal defense that had all 11 players in their half of the field, the Eagles tallied nine shots on frame before finally getting on the board in the 30th minute. Just five minutes after entering the contest,
Kristin Sverrisdottir rocketed a shot from about 35 yards out to put the Eagles up 1-0.
Eight minutes later, another substitute,
Aimee Kasmally, crossed the ball in from the right side.
Gabriela Casariego was at the top of the box and managed to get just enough of a touch on the ball to get it to
Isabelle Haaranen who tucked a shot into the lower right corner to make the score 2-0 in the Eagles' favor.
Kasmally got on to the scoreboard herself early in the second half. The play started with Andrea Frøshaug who had free reign to run down the right side. She played the ball forward to Sverissdottir who dribbled into the box before delivering a low driven cross across the face of goal. Kasmally ran in toward the far post and tapped in the first goal of her collegiate career to extend the Eagle advantage to 3-0.
Frøshaug registered an unassisted goal in the 55th minute and
Janina Helwig capped off the Eagle scoring at the 87:39 mark, running onto a ball played in by Ebbs and dribbling unimpeded into he box before slotting home her first goal of the season.
