MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team earned wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles, but the squad was unable to get by Florida Tech (3-3), falling 7-2 to the 37th-ranked Panthers on the road on Friday afternoon.
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead with a pair of 8-6 doubles victories as Erin Egoroff and Merritt Robson topped
Paula Ortiz Couder and
Kathryn Bock at the second position and Kayla Hergott and Alahna Reto bested
Giovanna Tomiotto and
Meena Bennett at No. 3 doubles.
The Eagles were able to get a point back at No. 1 doubles where
Hui-I Huang and Anna Götz bested Chloe Chanley and Natasa Vukovic 8-4.
Singles play saw Reto increase the Panther lead to 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Bock at the fifth spot.
The Eagles got their second point of the afternoon when Götz defeated Egoroff 6-3, 7-5 on court two to make the score 3-2.
The Blue and Gold was unable to find another win in singles as Hergott downed Tomiotto 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 and 48th-ranked Vukovic topped Huang 6-4, 6-4 at the top spot to clinch the win.
The final match off the court went to three sets, and in the end it was the Panthers' Chanley who was able to hold off Ortiz Couder 7-5, 5-7, 7-5.
The Eagles (0-4) will be back in action at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday when they host No. 27 Rollins at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
